The Forest Food Showcase proves a hit with Gregg Wallace

Gregg spent several happy hours wandering around the produce stalls tasting both food & drink. He met hundreds of people attending the event and was happy to pose for photo's with them and sign autographs.

Greggs verdict "Yumy" and after his first ever visit to the Royal Forest of Dean, he has declared he wants to return soon with his family. He said" What a great atmosphere, the people are lovely and the quality of produce was excellent".

Success at our Gourmet Dinner Event

The Forest Showcase was commenced with a fantastic 8 course "Gourmet Dinner" using all local produce and was enjoyed by 86 guests. The meal was praised by Gregg Wallace, much to the delight and relief of Head Chef Brent and his team.

Gregg commenced the evening by extolling the virtues of using local produce and interspersed with jokes told the assembled guests of his varied career up to Master Chef.

During the meal he met all of the guests and many had the photograph taken with him. The evening concluded with Gregg hosting a question and answer session and yet again more photo's.

The feedback from those attending was excellent and that they had enjoyed a great night.

It was fantastic that the team could produce such high quality food and service and our thanks go out to them and to the support of the customers.

Forest Food Showcase – 7th October 2012

The Forest Showcase, Food & Drink Festival is to be held on Sunday 7th October 2012, at The Speech House Hotel & Field. The event is being organised by Amanda Smith from Switched On (Forest) community Interest company, along with Rachel Smith and in conjunction with Peter & Gill Hands, owners of the Speech House Hotel.

The Forest Showcase will bring together over 50 different food and drink producers from the Forest of Dean and surrounding area, arts & crafts, free talks and cookery demonstrations, children’s workshops, a sustainable living area and many other attractions making this year’s event the biggest in the history of the event.

The star attraction will be the opening of the event by the very popular BBC TV & Radio Food programmes presenter “Gregg Wallace” who has hosted programmes such as Saturday Morning Kitchen, Turn Back Time, BBC Radio 4’s Food programme and of course Master Chef.

Gregg will be appearing thanks to Peter & Gill Hands working closely with Be- Spoke Hotels, who they use as a marketing organisation to promote the Speech House Hotel and surrounding area.

Peter Hands said “We are delighted to have been able to secure the appearance of Gregg, on behalf of The Forest Showcase. Gregg is passionate about local produce being used where ever possible. Our thanks go to Be-Spoke for their assistance in inviting Gregg down to the Royal Forest Food and Drink Event, we are sure everyone will turn out to give him a warm Forest welcome.

The Speech House wins the Forester Business Award for Tourism

The Royal Forest Jubilee is ‘The Event’ in the Forest of Dean to celebrate Her Majesty The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and is promoted by Lydbrook Band. This is a family occasion so come and enjoy some wonderful music with many varied acts throughout the day along with attractions for all ages.

There will be main stage performances from 2pm right through to 10pm and Lydbrook Band will perform a Last Night of the Proms with sound effects and a firework finale. There will also be a fly past of local historic aeroplanes (weather permitting).

Feel free to bring your own picnic, set up your blanket or table and chairs, sit back, listen and enjoy the diverse talent we are so lucky to have in this part of the country. Alternatively you can hire a gazebo plot for the day and relax and enjoy the day in your own space.

Take part in the Forest of Dean half Marathon

The race course for 2012 is the same as the course in 2011, following forest trails, and some minor road sections.

The officially-measured half-marathon course (13 miles 192.5 yards) was created by the Forestry Commission, with special permission has been given to stage the race over this course.

Starting at the Speech House Hotel, the race course follows the trails in a clockwise direction through the Forest of Dean to return to the Speech House.
